GR TRAILS GR 5 / E 2

GR 5 / E 2 (North Sea - Rivièra)

GR 5 sectieE 2 is a European long distance hiking trail that connects Scotland to the Mediterranean Rivièra. As illustrated on the map (General overview) there are two possibilities to get from Scotland to Belgium: an eastern and a western trail. They join in Zoersel (Belgium) and continue as one trail all the way up to Nice.
The amongst GR hikers famous 'GR 5' trail in fact is part of the European E 2 trail. Generally speaking GR 5 indicates the part that goes from Hoek van Holland up to Nice, which coincides more or less with the common part of the E 2 trail.
More info can be found on the following websites: European Ramblers Association and Wikipedia.

On the 'western branch' of the E 2 we only hiked some parts in France and Belgium. They're listed under the trails GR 128, GR 5A Zuid, GR 12 and GR 565.
A very small part (the connection GR 5A - GR 5 / E 2 around Antwerp, 25 km) has been plotted out especially for the E 2. It's described in the topoguide GR 5A South and is listed in the categories below.

On the 'eastern branch' we only hiked the part from Bergen-op-Zoom to Zoersel. That part is described in the topoguide GR 5 Traject der Lage Landen (published in Dutch), listed below.

On the common part of the E 2 trail we hiked parts described in the topoguides GR 5 Traject der Lage Landen, GR 5 Wallonië - Luxemburg (published in Dutch) and GR 5 Luxemburg - Lorraine (published in French). All these topo-guides are listed below.
