GR 564 (Kempen - Condroz) *
The 164 km. long GR 564 trail takes you from Lommel to Huy.
At first sight this may seem a rather randomly choosen itinerary, but after all it's not always necessary to justify a trail with a great story. Just walk and enjoy whatever is presented along the way ...
Anyway, the regions that you pass through seem worthwhile: the forested and sandy Kempen in Limburg, fertile Haspengouw with it's fruit culture, Walloon 'Hesbaye', and the descent into the valley of the river Meuse towards Huy ... enough to become interested.
GR 564 risks becoming one of those forgotten GR trails. The topoguide dates from 1993 and as far as we know there are no plans for a new updated edition. All the more reasons for us to hurry along this trail and to find out for ourselves if it's still worthwhile.

The topoguide is dating from 1993. The book doesn't mention numbered waypoints as is the case in more recent topo-guide publications.The Flemish GR organisation apparently doesn't notice a lot of interest for the GR 564 trail, because for quite some time the booklet has been offered at a significantly reduced price. Good for us, we thought, and we went to buy the book. We were lucky: that day it had been decided to take GR 564 off the shelves ... so we got it for free !
What the GR organisation intends to do with this trail (and a few others), we don't know. Maybe we'll be amonst the last people that attempt to walk this 164 km. long trail. Anyway, we quickly noted down the changes that are indicated on the website.
